The Func. Lab is India's Newest Clean Nutrition Brand

ree

These days, performance nutrition is everywhere.  From protein powders to hydration boosters, the world of wellness supplements is booming, both in India and globally. But with it comes a lot of confusion. Complicated ingredient lists, marketing gimmicks, and over-the-top routines can make the average person feel completely lost. What should be simple—fueling your body to feel and perform better—often ends up feeling like solving a science puzzle. Still, the demand is only growing as more people want to feel and perform better, whether it’s at the gym, on the field, or just in daily life.

But now India has a new clean nutrition brand, The Func. Lab. Launched by celebrity fitness coach and SOHFIT founder Sohrab Khushrushahi, The Func. Lab is here to change the game. Teaming up with former IPL cricketer Sahil Kukreja and wellness advocate Daneesh Davar, the trio is on a mission to strip away the fluff and bring nutrition back to the basics—clean, effective, and science-backed.

With a bold promise, 'Protein and Hydration Done Right', The Func. Lab offers simple, high-potency products that work. Their clean-label range includes plant protein, grass-fed whey, and electrolyte formulas, all designed to deliver exactly what your body needs without unnecessary fillers, sugars, or additives. Think: up to 30g of protein per scoop, gut-friendly ingredients, and transparent labels you can actually understand.

Born out of real conversations with clients and athletes, The Func. Lab. was built for those tired of complicated solutions and empty promises. The goal? To redefine wellness with honest, functional products that meet people where they are—in the gym, at home, or on the move.

Before the launch, The Style List spoke to Sohrab Khushrushahi to know all about what's in store.

What inspired you to move from law to fitness, and now to nutrition?

I practised law for over a decade. I chose it initially because it was the “safe” path growing up. But towards the latter part of my legal career, I realised it no longer made me happy. I wasn’t excited to start my day, and just getting through work began to feel like a chore. Fitness, on the other hand, has always been a constant in my life since I was 15. So the transition felt organic — I was finally moving towards something I genuinely loved rather than something I thought I had to do.

The Func Lab was a natural extension of that journey. Through my work, I saw how people were training hard, showing up consistently, but still not getting the results they wanted, mainly because their nutrition wasn’t supporting their effort. The supplement space was full of confusion and compromises. I knew we could do better, and that’s how The Func Lab was born.

Was there a specific moment when you realised India needed a cleaner supplement brand?

It wasn’t a single moment, but more of an accumulation of experiences. I’ve been taking protein supplements since I was 16. Back then, we weren’t focused on function — we just picked the most popular brand as long as it delivered 20 grams of protein per scoop. Over the past eight years with SOHFIT, people constantly asked me which protein they should use. And I often struggled to give a clear, honest answer, mainly because I couldn't confidently say what was in most products. Supplements had become so loaded with unnecessary ingredients that it was hard to tell what was real.

I realised there was a serious gap in the market — a need for a clean, honest brand that focused on giving people exactly what they were looking for: quality protein. That’s what led to The Func Lab. The same goes for hydration and electrolytes — the market has remained stagnant, and no one’s really questioning what’s out there. We saw that as an opportunity to do better.

What makes The Func Lab different from other brands in the market?

We’re not in the business of selling you dreams — we’re here to solve real problems. While most brands begin with, “What’s trending?”, we asked, “What’s missing?” Every protein we offer has a high protein-to-calorie ratio, which is what really matters in a supplement. Our electrolytes provide 1000 mg of sodium because, in our opinion, that’s what truly aids recovery. But beyond the products, we’re focused on building trust. From the packaging to the way we engage with our customers, everything is designed with respect and transparency. That, we believe, is our true differentiator.

How do you ensure your products remain clean and transparent?

We manufacture only in ISO 22000, GMP, and FSSAI-certified facilities where we can trace every ingredient from its source to your scoop. One of my co-founders, Sahil, comes from a food manufacturing background and brings deep expertise in formulation, testing, and supply chains.

We’re personally involved in every batch. Every product goes through multiple rounds of third-party testing for both purity and safety. In a market where regulations are still catching up, we’ve chosen to self-regulate to meet global standards. When people trust you with their health, there’s absolutely no room for shortcuts. Every ingredient is listed clearly on the packaging, so consumers know exactly what they’re putting into their bodies and why.

What’s the biggest myth people believe about supplements?

I wouldn’t call it a myth, but there is definitely a lot of fear, and rightly so. People are unsure of what they’re consuming because supplements today are overloaded with everything but the core ingredient they promise, like protein. Once you strip away the noise and explain what the body actually needs and why, the fear starts to go away. It’s all about simplifying the conversation.

What’s next for you and The Func Lab?

Honestly, we’re just getting started. Our goal is to offer quality over quantity. We’re not rushing to launch dozens of flavours or products. Whatever we create, we want to do it really well.

Right now, our focus is on building the best protein and hydration supplements in the market. Behind the scenes, our R&D team is constantly working, identifying gaps and needs. This is a long-term game for us, and we’re in it with patience and purpose.

You’ve trained stars like Alia Bhatt and teams like the Mumbai Indians. How different is it training celebrities versus athletes?

At the end of the day, they’re all human. Just like anyone else, they have goals they want to achieve. What people don’t always see is how incredibly hard they work behind the scenes. That said, the training approach does differ. Athletes train for performance, while actors often train for aesthetics — to look a certain way for a role or appearance. It doesn’t mean one works harder than the other; it just means their focus is different. Both deserve credit for the dedication they bring to their routines.

What’s one thing most people don’t realise about celebrity fitness routines?

It involves a lot of hard work. There’s enormous pressure on them to look a certain way at all times, because everything from their outfits to their posture is scrutinised publicly. People often assume it’s easy for them, but that’s far from reality.

Their bodies function just like anyone else’s. They have to stay disciplined and put in the work if they want to achieve physical transformation, especially for demanding roles. There are no shortcuts, even for celebrities.

What do SOHFIT and The Func Lab have in common at their core?

At the heart of both SOHFIT and The Func Lab is a simple philosophy: don’t complicate things. Wellness and nutrition don’t need to be confusing. We focus on simplifying them so people can actually stick with it. That’s the only way to see sustainable results. It’s a marathon, not a sprint — and there are no shortcuts.
