A trip to Bangkok almost always comes with a checklist of bucket-list restaurants, and more often than not, Nara Thai sits right at the top. The much-loved Thai restaurant, Nara Thai India by Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, has finally arrived in Delhi NCR, following its debut in Mumbai in December 2024. With its recognition in the Michelin Guide, the hype surrounding it is well-deserved!
Indians share a special connection with Thailand. From being a favourite travel destination thanks to its proximity and visa-free access, but also in terms of cultural similarities. Thai cuisine, with its bold use of spices and chilli, feels instantly familiar yet exciting. Founded in Bangkok in 2003 by Narawadee Srikarnchana (Yuki) and Sirisopa Chulasewok (Jean), Nara Thai was built on this very philosophy—bringing friends and families together over comforting, authentic Thai food.
Located on Golf Course Road in Gurugram, the restaurant’s interiors draw inspiration from the soul of Thai culture, featuring hues of purple and white with gold accents. Designed by renowned Thai interior designer Nitipattara Yensup, the space boasts soothing colour palettes, soft lighting with hanging lanterns adorned with decorative flowers, cane walls, patterned flooring, and gold tile detailing that enhance its warmth and sophistication. Large bay windows allow natural light to flood the space, while the seating options extend beyond conventional chairs and tables to include swing sofas, cabana-style tables, and even a private dining area.

Nara Thai focuses exclusively on Thai cuisine, offering an extensive menu packed with flavour. Expect a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian small plates, comforting soups like the classic Tom Yum, Som Tam, salads such as the traditional Raw Papaya Salad and Pomelo Salad, flavoured rice dishes, signature curries like Massaman Curry, Pad Thai noodles, satay, crispy tofu, and much more. What sets Nara Thai apart is its unique use of jaggery instead of sugar throughout the menu, with ingredients sourced directly from Nara Bangkok to ensure authentic flavours.
We started our meal on a protein-packed note with the Edamame Salad with Grilled Eryngii mushrooms tossed in a sweet and spicy dressing reminiscent of raw papaya salad. The Crispy Soft Shell Crab, bursting with black pepper and bird’s eye chilli, was hands down our favourite dish of the meal—a standout, especially since this ingredient isn’t commonly available in Delhi. Also worth ordering are the Chicken Wrapped in Pandan Leaves with Sweet Dark Soy, Crispy Betel Leaves with Chilli Lime Dip, Thai Fish Cakes with Cucumber Relish, and Crispy Shrimp Cakes served with sweet chilli sauce—golden-fried, crunchy, and addictive.
While the food menu stays rooted in Nara’s Bangkok legacy, the cocktails have been specially curated for the Delhi NCR outlet and are exclusive to this location. Crafted using ingredients from the Thai pantry, the drinks perfectly complement the food. The Bangkok Burn stood out with its signature sweet-and-spicy kick, while the Jasmine Sour offered a refreshing, aromatic twist. For those who prefer non-alcoholic options, the Pineapple Kaffir mocktail is a must-try.
Hot off the grill, meat lovers can indulge in Thai Grilled Pork Spare Ribs, Lamb Chops in a Thai Marinade, and several other hearty options. Vegetarians, too, are spoiled for choice with dishes like Morning Glory, Stir-fried Eryngii with Garlic Chips, Stir-fried Mock Chicken with Cashews, and Stir-fried Water Chestnuts with Cashews. For mains, the Chicken Krapow with sticky rice truly mirrors the experience of Bangkok street food—spicy and packed with flavour, ideally suited for those who can handle heat. The Pad Thai is freshly mixed based on your preference and comes slightly sweet yet well-balanced with lime, while the Green Curry Rice is comforting and well-rounded. Other enticing dishes that caught our attention included Thai Omelette with Crab Meat, Steamed John Dory with Spicy Chili Lime Sauce, and an array of Green and Red Curries with different proteins, along with a beautiful purple Butterfly Pea Fried Rice infused with Thai herbs. The variety on the menu guarantees that you will always find something new to try.
Dessert was a refreshing affair with Tim Tub Grob a delicate dessert made of coconut, coconut milk, crushed ice, and red water chestnut berries, which served as a refreshing palate cleanser and a fitting finale. You can also opt for classics like Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Crème Brûlée, or Caramelised Coconut & Pandan Balls. Chocolate lovers will be drawn to the Chocolate Crêpe Cake, a layered crêpe cake filled with chocolate and vanilla cream that sounds as delightful as it looks on the menu.
In a city that has an overdose of Pan Asian Food, a restaurant dedicated to refined Thai food is a dream come true for many.
