Summer Fashion Trends We’re Seeing Literally Everywhere Right Now

Summer fashion right now feels like a 2000s fever dream in the best way possible. Everyone is wearing ballet flats again, and lace socks are peeking out from underneath them, resembling a Pinterest board from 2014. Boxer shorts and Capris are making a comeback with people styling them outside their house unironically, and jelly sandals have made their way back into our wardrobes after years of being collectively left behind in childhood.

Every year, fashion decides to revive something we all collectively swore we would never wear again, and somehow, by the end of summer, everybody is obsessed with it. Last year, it was all about the hyper-clean minimal aesthetic, and now we are dressing like the stylish side character in a 2000s movie who probably owns an iPod Nano and layers lace camisoles over everything.

This is a characteristic of fashion's cyclical nature. Trends always find a way of coming back around. Let's talk about capri pants. These calf-length pants had one of the biggest hate trains for YEARS. Wearing them felt like an extreme fashion faux pas, and now they are in Vogue.

Similarly, beaded bags, bloomer shorts, folded-waist trousers and all those little details that feel oddly familiar are making 2026 summer fashion trends feel nostalgic.

Ballet flats and Lace socks

Just when everyone thought ballet flats had retired with Tumblr-era fashion, they came back as one of the biggest summer fashion trends, and this time styled with lace socks. The whole combination feels very soft, whimsical, vintage, and, honestly, a little chaotic. The reason this trend works right now is that it looks effortless. Ballet flats are being styled with everything from preppy skirts to waistcoats and trousers, as well as oversized shirts, boxer shorts, mini dresses, and even relaxed tailoring, offering a laid-back look.

The addition of lace socks makes even the simplest outfit feel styled. A plain white dress or an oversized shirt with shorts suddenly looks far more put together with just that one small detail added in. It gives “accidentally fashionable while buying flowers from a local market” energy.

And yes, socks in summer, especially in Indian weather, sounds slightly absurd, but the lace versions are much lighter and more breathable than regular socks, which is probably why people are leaning towards them right now. They add texture without making the outfit feel heavy, and since they are usually ankle-length and sheer, they work more like an accessory than actual socks — it is less about practicality and more about adding that playful detail. The trend also fits well into fashion’s current obsession with softer dressing. After years of chunky sneakers dominating everyday outfits, people are leaning back into more delicate silhouettes and ballet flats sit right in that alley.

The easiest way to style this summer fashion trend, lace socks for summer, is with boxer-style shorts and an oversized striped shirt, or even with capri pants for the full nostalgic effect. Lace socks work best when the outfit itself is simple since they already add enough detail on their own.

Boxer-Style Shorts

There is probably no clothing item more suited for summer than boxer-style shorts; they're easy, breezy and oh-so-comfy. The moment temperatures become unbearable, the idea of wearing jeans feels almost offensive, and even denim shorts feel too thick for the humidity. Boxer shorts, on the other hand, are light, breezy, comfortable, and they also manage to look incredibly stylish with minimal effort.

What makes them such a huge trend this season is how easily they can swing between casual and dressed up, depending on the styling. One scroll through Instagram, and there is guaranteed to be someone wearing striped cotton boxers with an oversized button-down, while someone else styles lace-trimmed satin versions with a camisole and a tiny shoulder bag. The whole aesthetic sits somewhere between “borrowed from the boys” and “borrowed from the bedroom”, and fashion people seem completely obsessed with both versions right now.

They also fall perfectly into this year’s shift towards effortless outfits without being boring. Boxer shorts have that “threw this on in five minutes but still somehow look fashionable” quality, which makes them a perfect starter pack item for people wanting to experiment more with their style. The best and easiest way to style them is with an oversized striped shirt, a fitted tank, or even a simple white tee and sneakers. They work just as well for coffee runs and casual outings as they do for vacations or airport looks.

Oversized striped shirts

A summer wardrobe without an oversized striped shirt almost feels incomplete at this point. Striped shirts have survived every trend cycle possible, making them an evergreen addition to your wardrobe. Part of the reason they work so well is that they fit into almost every aesthetic currently dominating fashion. If someone prefers a more relaxed, minimal look, an oversized blue-striped shirt with boxer shorts and flip-flops instantly works. If the appeal is more playful and experimental, people are layering them over polka-dot skirts, pairing them with jorts and heels, or even styling them off-shoulder with tiny shorts and shoulder bags. Add in accessories like baseball caps, stacked jewellery, and tinted sunglasses to elevate the ensemble for a more sporty look.

They also have the same versatility as a classic white button-down, but feel slightly more interesting due to the variety of patterns they come in. And because most of them come in loose, breezy silhouettes, they actually make sense for summer.

Capri Pants

If there is one trend that absolutely nobody saw making this aggressive of a comeback, it has to be capri pants. For years, they were treated like the forgotten middle child of fashion, constantly being dragged online and associated almost entirely with awkward early 2000s styling.

Once you get past the initial “wait… capris are back?” reaction, they start making a weird amount of sense for summer. They are lighter than full-length trousers, more put together than shorts, work for everything from casual coffee runs to office outfits, depending on the styling and most importantly, are super comfortable.

People are not really overthinking the styling this time around, and styling capris over anything and everything. The outfits themselves stay relatively simple, letting the silhouette do most of the talking. Cropped shirts with belts, denim-on-denim sets, cargo capris paired with tied scarves, and even monochrome looks with pumps all somehow make the trend feel surprisingly wearable.

Lace Camisoles

Remember those lace camisoles that used to peek out from underneath graphic tees and zip-up hoodies in the early 2000s? Well, they have made their way back into fashion again this year around. There is something so delicate about a lace-trim neckline paired with relaxed denim or oversized tailoring that makes an outfit feel appealing.

The new versions also feel much sleeker compared to the ones people remember from the 2000s. Instead of heavily layered party tops, the lace camisoles are longer and come in different designs. Some come in silky satin fabrics, others in ribbed cotton styles with delicate lace trims, while a few are a crossover between a camisole and a tank top. But the common factor between all of them is lace — the soft, romantic detail.

Beyond the nostalgia factor, they make any outfit look good. A lace cami adds texture and a sexy edge to even the simplest look. Styled with loose denim, tailored trousers, maxi skirts, or layered underneath oversized blazers, they manage to look both effortless and dressed up at the same time. The styling possibilities are honestly endless right now. People are layering them underneath polo shirts and jackets, pairing them with flowy skirts and kitten heels, or wearing them under oversized blazers with trousers.

Folded-Waist Trousers

Folded-waist trousers are one of those trends that look confusing at first and then end up everywhere. At one point, they genuinely looked like someone forgot to pull their pants up properly, and now fashion people are styling them like it is the coolest thing ever.

Regular trousers can sometimes feel too formal, especially during summer, but the folded waistband detail makes them look more relaxed and wearable. They sit comfortably between office and everyday wear, lending them versatility. Be it vacation outfits, airport looks, coffee runs, work meetings, or dinner plans… these loose trousers fit into all of it.

A folded-waist trouser with a bralette and layered jewellery immediately gives off that fashion-girl-on-holiday vibe everybody keeps recreating online. Pairing them with matching shirts also works really well, making the outfit feel like a co-ord set. Even with something as simple as a fitted tank and flip flops, the trousers themselves already make the outfit look more interesting.

Surprisingly, these also work really well for workwear, too, especially on days when dressing formally feels impossible in the heat. Add a white shirt, relaxed blazer, or a simple tee, and the outfit still looks polished while being comfortable. Accessories like cloth hairbands, silk scarves, shoulder bags, sunglasses, and stacked bangles also pair perfectly with these pants.

Bloomer Shorts

Bloomer shorts are probably one of the most confusing trends at first glance. One minute, they look like something pulled from a vintage doll wardrobe, and the next, somebody styles them with an oversized shirt and ballet flats.

The whole trend feels very soft, girl-coded. These shorts feel a bit like a flowy skirt, but still have the comfort of regular shorts. Sometimes they even look like sporty skorts, depending on how they are styled. These features make them perfect for summer because nobody really wants to wear anything tight or uncomfortable in this heat anyway.

Bloomer shorts can also be a fun addition to one's wardrobe. They just make outfits feel more fun somehow with their puffy ruffles and exaggerated shape. Even a basic tank top or oversized tee looks more stylish when paired with bloomers. And because the shorts themselves already have so much volume and shape, the rest of the outfit does not really need much effort. At the same time, bloomers are definitely not everybody’s cup of tea. The silhouette can feel a little too dramatic at first, and it can look tricky to style. The best way to style them is by keeping the rest of the outfit simple. A basic tank top, an oversized shirt, a fitted tee, or even a lace camisole works really well without making the outfit look too over-the-top.

Jelly Sandals

Another item making a strong comeback are jelly sandals, which have taken over the internet. We are talking about the same plastic-squeaky shoes that used to be part of childhood summers. They are suddenly everywhere again, except now they are styled in a very grown-up, fashion-girl way.

A big part of the appeal is obviously the nostalgia factor. Jelly sandals instantly take one back to that very specific childhood summer energy, where everything was colourful and fun. What makes them work this time is the contrast. Jelly sandals are playful and casual on their own, but when paired with more polished pieces, the outfit suddenly feels very current. Capri pants with jelly sandals are already becoming one of the most unexpected combinations.

The newer versions also help a lot. Instead of the bright, chunky styles from before, there are now cleaner silhouettes, neutral tones, woven designs, and barely transparent versions that feel much easier to wear outside of the beach. Surprisingly, they are actually practical too, especially for Indian weather and monsoons. They handle rain better than most shoes and are easy to clean and wear. But there is still a large chunk of those who aren't on board with the trend.

Beaded Bags

Beaded bags are having their “main character summer” moment right now. With bag charms, shoe charms, and even those tiny collectable accessories everyone is obsessed with, beaded bags feel like the natural next step. Fashion enthusiasts are carrying colourful beaded mini bags shaped like fruits, animals, and all kinds of random fun objects. It is very maximalist, chaotic, and very much aligned with how fashion is leaning into “fun dressing” again.

Styling them is where it gets fun. They work best with a simple outfit like a white tee and denim. For a more feminine look, style it with a summer dress, an oversized one, or even resortwear like swimwear and cover-ups for the beach.

Polka Dot Skirts

From dresses and satin skirts to bikinis, scarves, bags, and even polka dot nails, the print has completely taken over fashion this year. Out of all the polka dot pieces showing up right now, satin polka dot skirts are probably the most popular. They have a very soft, romantic feel that makes outfits look prettier. The whole vibe feels very early-2000s rom-com main character. Very 13 Going on 30 coded.

They are also one of those pieces that can completely change depending on what they are paired with. Styled with a basic tank top or oversized tee, the outfit feels effortless and very cool, girl-coded. Add ballet flats, lace socks, or kitten heels, and suddenly the whole look feels much dressier.

Polka dot skirts are probably one of the easiest trends in this entire list to wear. They do not feel intimidating, they work across seasons, and they add just enough personality to an outfit without making it look overstyled.
