1. Maximalism

Experts at myTrident believe that Maximalism is a prominent theme that defines spaces with their distinctive presence. "Traditional Indian folk designs like Jamdani or design techniques like Jaipuri block prints have always adhered to the principles of Maximalism with their rich and vibrant colours and patterns. " Prateek Sabharwal, Founder of Escape by Creatomy shared "As we step into 2024, a profound shift is witnessed in the realm of interior aesthetics—a departure from the prevalent love for minimalist homes to the rising dominance of maximalism. At the forefront of this trend revolution is the captivating allure of Charred Black Furniture, drawing inspiration from the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique." Highlighting the technique he goes on to say, "This innovative approach involves the meticulous charring of wood to achieve a sleek, dark finish." For Priyanka Singh, Founder of Chalk Studio, maximalism is channelled with the boldness of text and textures, "In these minimalist times, a room's texture paint walls are sufficient to draw attention to it and give it a fashionable feel. Furthermore, bold text or phrases in a variety of font styles—whether in a home or commercial setting—have evolved into a source of representation for the area and its occupants and may be effortlessly applied over textured walls."Elements with bold features are favoured to denote self-expression, allowing homeowners to curate spaces that will tell their unique stories. Kareena Kapoor, Brand Ambassador, myTrident also believes in making her home a personalised space and says, “It's not about having it and spending it and showing it off, the idea is to love something and keep it for years, other than sheets and towels that need to be changed every year or two.”

Another pivotal trend takes centre stage—Sustainable Materials. This transformative shift signifies a conscientious turn towards eco-friendly choices in furniture, planters, and decor. Embracing renewable resources, this trend becomes a testament to the brand's commitment to reducing environmental impact. By fostering a more sustainable and responsible approach to interior design. Shreshtha Poddar, Vice President, of Designers Resource, envisions a significant shift towards sustainability and innovation in design. "The focus will be on eco-conscious practices, such as recycling textile waste and embracing traditional manufacturing techniques. This shift introduces Textile Design Thinking emphasizing energy efficiency and long-lasting durability. The design world is poised to embrace a vibrant colour spectrum, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, where shades of browns and greys lead the revival in luxurious furnishings."

Silent Luxury

Towards the end of 2023, we saw more people leaning towards the trend of silent luxury wherein there is no overt display of wealth. Embracing the serenity of muted earthy tones, this trend will exist in stark contrast to the boldness of Maximalism. This silent luxury evokes a sense of tranquillity, utilising neutral palettes and clean lines to create spaces that breathe. Subdued elegance becomes the focal point, where each element serves a purpose, contributing to an uncluttered aesthetic that speaks volumes through simplicity. Poddar believes the importance of Quiet Luxuries remains crucial, emphasizing the timeless appeal of high-quality fabrics. She goes on to say, "Homeowners are now prioritizing personalization, creating spaces that reflect their unique identities rather than following fleeting trends." In agreement are Komal Mittal & Ninada Kashyap, Co-Founders and Principal Architects of Alkove-Design, "Home is where the heart finds its sanctuary. In each space, we strive to create an immersive experience. A home isn't just about decorating rooms; it's about crafting moments that linger in the memory — a signature touch that makes each room special, and where every detail evokes an emotion."

"Embracing a boho chic vibe, elements like weaved baskets, rugs and other decor items crafted from natural materials will be much sought after." Seamlessly blending functionality with environmental consciousness, this trend not only promotes responsible living but also introduces an artisanal touch, bringing warmth and authenticity into the home.

"The integration of cutting-edge technology seamlessly melds with decor, enhancing convenience and efficiency," said myTrident. From intelligent lighting systems to temperature-controlled sheets, these innovations not only streamline daily routines but also contribute to the overall aesthetic, transforming homes into modern sanctuaries. "While there is a growing interest in AI-integrated living spaces, there's also a notable resurgence in the desire for organic, natural living," says Poddar.

Finally the most exciting of all trends, amid these contemporary trends, the timeless allure of elegant classic designs will always persist. "Home decor elements like beddings, curtains and bath linen with intricate patterns and rich textures, emerge as integral elements in defining different spaces inside one's home. These timeless pieces add a touch of sophistication and comfort, grounding the room with a sense of tradition and refinement. The juxtaposition of classic designs within modern contexts creates a captivating visual narrative that transcends temporal boundaries," believe experts at myTrident.

Veteran Nitin Kohli calls this trend French Modern, which is a blend of classical and modern furniture. Singh avocates adding uniqueness with handcrafted pieces, "People these days are appreciating handmade stuff when it comes to home décor. It offers a real mood and demonstrates the true ability of our artisans, giving your house a unique touch. The traditions, stories, and talents of bygone eras that are infused into handcrafted items enhance your house."
