The iconic French department store Galeries Lafayette is officially set to open its first-ever India flagship this November in Mumbai, in collaboration with the Aditya Birla Group. Set within the historic Turner Morrison and Voltas House building in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, the 90,000 sq. ft., five-level store will resemble the architectural grandeur of its Parisian counterpart, reimagined for the Indian landscape. Designed by London-based architectural firm Virgile + Partners, the space offers a fresh interpretation of Galeries Lafayette’s global identity through an Indian lens. Embodying the Art de Vivre and Joie de Vivre, the curated portfolio brings together over 250 revered luxury and designer brands from around the globe.
While the façade has a strong European feel, the interiors are softly lit and decorated in calm shades of white and cream. At the heart of the store stands a striking installation — a large pastel-hued hot air balloon —instantly reminding you of the whimsical allure of Paris. The fashion displays are thoughtfully curated, with clothing delicately arranged on sleek racks, while handbags take pride of place on minimalist shelves. The lower level is devoted entirely to beauty, offering an immersive experience for skincare and makeup enthusiasts. Beyond retail, the Mumbai flagship is designed as a complete luxury destination, featuring exclusive personal styling services, private lounges for an intimate shopping experience, dedicated concierge assistance, and curated cultural experiences that bring the brand's ethos to life.
