Whether the world is ready for the recent adaptation of Wuthering Heights is up for discussion, but what's unmissable is Margot’s necklace at the movie’s premiere. The now-viral neckpiece has been impossible to miss due to its Mughal and Elizabeth Taylor ties and has been picked up by every media outlet and fashion commentator. That is how we know that the purpose of the ornament for the occasion has been served.
Margot Robbie has been the pioneer of method dressing for film promotions. Be it Barbie, which became a massive brand study in itself, or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which stays rent-free on the Pinterest folks' boards. With Wuthering Heights, the bar was placed higher. The inspiration has certainly got to align with the gothic vibes interpreted in the trailer, but how does one bring that to the carpet? Stylist Andrew Mukamal had just the answer.
Adorned in custom Schiaparelli, which drew from the Spring ‘26 couture collection, Margot steps in with a gradation of lace, black and a vibrant red to the carpet. Minimal makeup, romantic updo and even better jewellery, the look was equal parts Fennell’s Cathy and classic Robbie. At the centre of it all, the Taj Mahal necklace became the ornament of attention. The iconic heart-shaped necklace unearthed from Cartier’s vaults is known for its closest association with Elizabeth Taylor herself. Gifted by Richard Burton to Elizabeth Taylor on her 40th birthday, this relic is one of the most quoted and hailed pieces of jewellery known to Hollywood.

Nothing quite screams the theme of the movie better than the Parsi inscription on the pendant that reads, “Love is Everlasting.” Befitting of the history that the ornament carries, the pendant was first gifted to Nur Jahan by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Passed down the line, the ornament experienced romantic exchanges. Next in line, Shah Jahan gifted the ornament to his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, known across the history of the Taj itself. Drawing its name from the monument, Taj Mahal, the ornament as worn by Robbie, was poured into a gold and ruby chain by the then in-house designer at Cartier, Alfred Durante, after acquiring the pendant.

The incorporation of the ornament into the premiere signals how archival looks with a history will never fail to grab eyeballs. Though the Schiaparelli masterpiece continues to speak volumes for the carpet’s theme, the Taj Mahal necklace spoke for the movie, and with that, the season of yearning romance seems to have officially begun.
