From Conan Grey to Lady Gaga, the stars served over-the-top fashion looks this year

The MTV VMAs have long been about fashion as much as they are about music, and the 2025 edition proved to be no exception. This year, the red carpet transformed into a stage for daring experimentation, nostalgic throwbacks, and unapologetic glamour. From avant-garde couture to vintage revivals and streetwear with a twist, the night’s looks celebrated artistry, individuality, and star power in equal measure. Music’s biggest names delivered a spectacle of style with jaw-dropping looks. We've rounded up the standout looks from the MTV VMAs 2025.

FKA Twigs' Headphone Braids

FKA Twigs delivered one of the most talked-about avant-garde statement looks. She turned the red carpet into her own art installation. The singer stunned in a conceptual burgundy ensemble, a shawl-bandeau top paired with low-rise pants. But the real showstopper was her hair, a sculptural masterpiece by hairstylist Louis Souvestre.

She recreated over-ear headphones entirely out of braids, juxtaposing sleek cornrows in front with punk spikes at the back. Twigs complemented the hair sculpture, creating a bold beauty look —featuring bleached brows, terracotta-cream eyeshadow, a brick-red lip, and chrome grills for a futuristic edge.

Audrey Nuna’s Sleeping Bag Look

Audrey Nuna drew gasps with a bold red carpet nod to her character Mira from KPOP Demon Hunters, stepping out in a sleeping bag-inspired look that blended performance with fashion. Her outfit leaned into dramatic puffed textures, matching the jacket with bold shoes and a traditional Korean binyeo hairpiece. The look was a clever take on cosplay and character dressing, blending performance, fandom and re-carpet couture into one unforgettable moment.

Sabrina Carpenter's Sheer Lace Valentino

Sabrina Carpenter made a show-stopping entrance in a custom, skintight, sheer red lace gown by Valentino, featuring a high neck and long sleeves that shimmered with sequin floral embellishments. She draped a lilac feather boa over her arms, which added an unexpected pop of colour and old-Hollywood glamour to the look. Her beauty choices were equally dramatic — voluminous Hollywood-style waves, a bronze glow with smoky eye makeup, and a mauve lip that tied the whole aesthetic together.

Lady Gaga’s Gothic Poetry

As usual, Lady Gaga served a look that was equal parts theatrical and couture. She accepted the Artist of the Year award in a gothic-grand Marc Jacobs gown from the Fall 2025 collection. The look features dramatic puffed sleeves, cascading ruffles, and Victorian-romance lace, along with a towering floral headdress by Hunter Clem. She channelled gothic opulence with a bold red lipstick, bleached brows, and coppery eyeshadow, capturing her signature blend of performance art and high fashion.

Tate McRae Sheer Greek Style

Tate McRae stole the red carpet in a custom sheer Greek-style white gown by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. The look featured a plunging bustier-style top and a translucent, trailing skirt that revealed cheeky matching bottoms underneath, accentuated by silver Stuart Weitzman heels and delicate drop earrings. She complemented her gown’s fantasy with a sleek, feather-accented honey-blonde hair, pearl-toned eyeshadow, and glossy lips. Though minimalist in accessories, the drama was all in the craftsmanship- and it quickly became one of the evening’s most iconic fashion moments.

Doja Cat’s 80’s Glamour

Doja Cat made a show-stopping entrance in a harlequin-print Balmain mini dress, dripping in ‘80s craft: pastel yellow platform heels, a jewel-encrusted lipstick clutch by Judith Leiber, and radiant Chopard jewellery. She turned up the drama with voluminous blonde curls, long coffin-red nails, and a bold red lipstick moment. This ensemble wasn't just a nod to nostalgia — it perfectly set the stage for her forthcoming album Vie, steeped in retro glamour and theatrical flair.

Tyla’s Archival Spin

Tyla gave archival fashion a bold twist by transforming a Chanel Spring/Summer 1993 shirt into a daring micro-mini dress. Originally worn by Claudia Schiffer on the runway, the cream piece with black trim and gold chain accents was styled by Tyla with black briefs and sky-high Christian Louboutin heels. She layered on Pandora’s Talisman collection — medallion necklaces, bracelets, rings, and even waist and ankle chains — bringing maximalist glamour to the archival look. With her sharp black bob, smoky eyes, bold red lip, and green manicure, the singer’s beauty look was as striking as her outfit.

Katseye Ensemble Dressing

The LA-based global girl group Katseye made their MTV VMA debut, with a fierce red carpet statement, stepping away from their viral denim moment to embrace full Dolce & Gabbana glamour. Winning Push Performance of the Year for “Touch,” the six members - Sophia Laforteza, Manon Bannerman, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung- each brought their own twist to a coordinated look of black, satin, silver, and sparkle.

Manon and Sophia stunned in structured blazer dresses, Lara Raj in a corset bodysuit with a bejewelled headpiece, Yoonchae in a lace mini-dress with boots, Megan in pink satin accents, and Daniela in a plunging crystal-adorned piece. The ensemble showed how powerful coordination with individual flair can feel - together, Katseye showed up not just dressed, but iconic.

Conan Grey’s Nautical Gown

Conan Grey opted for a bold statement look. He wore an Erik Charlotte ensemble that leaned heavily into nautical fantasy, featuring a puff-sleeved jacket, a drop-waist corset, and a layered ruffled skirt, all crafted almost entirely from denim. He completed the theatrical aesthetic with white platform boots and a matching sailor-style hat, styled by Katie Qian. It was a pretty daring look, one that didn’t just walk the red carpet; it made people talk.
