Relais & Châteaux Sitara Himalaya
📍 Manali, Himachal Pradesh,
Set high in the Himalayas near Manali, Relais & Châteaux Sitara Himalaya, is an intimate mountain retreat created by Anita Lal. With just 10 rooms and suites, the property feels more like a beautifully layered private residence than a conventional hotel. Rooted in the Vedic philosophy of living in harmony with nature and the cosmos, it brings together wellness, spirituality, Himalayan culture, and thoughtful design in a way that feels deeply personal and immersive.
Located in Palchan along the Manali–Leh Highway at nearly 8,200 feet above sea level, the retreat opens out to sweeping mountain views, forests, waterfalls, and the dramatic landscapes of Rohtang Pass and the valleys of Lahaul-Spiti. Life here moves quietly, shaped by crisp mountain air, changing skies, and a strong connection to the natural surroundings.
The architecture and interiors blend Indian, Tibetan, and colonial Himalayan influences through handcrafted details, local wood and stone, murals, brass accents, Tibetan rugs, antique objects, and artisanal textiles. Every space reflects Anita Lal’s signature design language and strong cultural identity, while cosy lounges, mountain-facing corners, meditation areas, wellness spaces, and a curated library create the atmosphere of an elegant private home in the mountains. Good Earth’s design sensibility runs gently throughout the retreat, adding warmth, colour, and soul to the spaces without overwhelming the landscape around it.
Wellness at Relais & Châteaux Sitara Himalaya is approached in a quiet and intuitive way rather than through a clinical spa format. Yoga, meditation, fire rituals, forest walks, waterfall hikes, riverside experiences, and nature immersion form an important part of everyday life here. The Svasthi wellness space includes a hot plunge pool infused with Himalayan deodar oil, an infrared sauna lined with Himalayan salt bricks, and a steam room energised with Himalayan rock crystals and green cardamom oil, all designed to encourage rest, grounding, and joyful wellbeing.
While dining at boutique stay follows its signature Himalayan Food Trail, celebrating cuisines from Kashmir, Himachal, Ladakh, and neighbouring mountain communities. Slow-cooked dishes, clay pot cooking, smoking, pickling, and fermentation techniques bring regional flavours to life through seasonal local ingredients such as trout, orchard produce, mountain herbs, morels, and foraged mushrooms. The experience feels deeply connected to the landscape and stories of the Himalayas themselves.
Days at Relais & Châteaux Sitara Himalaya are all about stargazing, storytelling meals, Himalayan walks, and quiet moments overlooking the mountains.
