Inside Parallel's Flagship Store, Where Doors and Windows Become Works of Art

Tucked away in the industrial lanes of Naraina, Delhi, there’s a space that instantly feels different from its surroundings. Step inside Parallel’s flagship store, and the noise of the city fades away, it is replaced by soft lighting, sleek materials. You instinctively slow down, your eyes drawn to textures, reflections, and tiny details that make you wonder, “How did they do that?”

Co-founders of Parallel: Ramneet Kalra and Sanjay Gupta

Designed as an immersive space for architects, designers, and homeowners alike, from the moment you walk in, it feels more like a design gallery than a retail store. There are smart glass panels that respond to touch, doors that disappear into walls, and windows that slide open so smoothly they barely make a sound. The vision behind this space belongs to Sanjay Gupta, the co-founder and curator. He has a brilliant way of turning everyday things like windows and doors into something extraordinary.

Spread across 2,500 square feet, Parallel’s space is a love letter to aluminium and glass. You can play around with interactive window setups, try out 3D holograms and AR tools, and actually see how something will look in your home before you make a decision. Technology can be seen everywhere, from glass that blocks heat and noise, so your home stays cool and quiet to doors with invisible locking systems. Blinds hidden inside glass panels. Unique finishes like fluted textures, matte mesh, glossy metallics, and even fabrics designed for glass, giving you endless customisation choices.

The store itself is a masterclass in minimalism. Clean lines, geometric play, and subtle reflections make every corner feel calm yet considered. Nothing screams for attention, yet everything catches your eye.

With a clear vision and a love for design, we sat down with Sanjay to learn how he turned everyday materials into something truly special.

What are the biggest trends you’re seeing in door and window design right now?

There’s a clear shift towards large-format glazing, slimline frames, and the use of floor-to-ceiling installations to maximise natural light. Dark-toned aluminium and steel frames are increasingly replacing traditional materials, offering a sleek and contemporary aesthetic. We’re also seeing a rise in smart integrations—automated locking systems, electrochromic (smart) glass, and motion sensors—as homeowners seek both visual appeal and enhanced functionality. Sustainability remains a key focus too, with energy-efficient glazing and eco-friendly materials becoming the standard.

Is minimalism still leading the way, or are clients asking for bolder design statements?

Minimalism still has a firm hold, especially for those leaning toward contemporary and clean aesthetics. However, more clients are now exploring bolder expressions—like dramatic entry doors, colored frames, and architectural glazing that doubles as a statement piece. We’re seeing a blend of minimalist forms enhanced with bespoke finishes, tactile textures, or subtle detailing that result in spaces which are both understated and expressive.

Are you seeing more interest in darker finishes and metal frames over traditional looks?

Absolutely. Matte black, charcoal, and bronze finishes are dominating door and window design, offering contrast and sophistication that lighter tones often lack. Metal frames, especially in aluminium and steel, are preferred for their durability, sleek profiles, and compatibility with modern interiors. While wood still has its place in classic or rustic settings, it’s often reimagined with darker stains or sed alongside metal to strike a modern-traditional balance.

How has the idea of ‘flexible spaces’ influenced the design of internal partitions and doors?

The rise of multi-functional living has driven demand for adaptable design solutions. Sliding partitions, folding glass doors, and modular screens are being used to reconfigure spaces easily, from work mode to relaxation. These elements let in natural light while still offering privacy and sound control. Frameless glass dividers and minimal track systems ensure these solutions stay visually light and ideal for open-plan layouts.

What trends are you seeing in bathroom design, particularly with shower enclosures and glass installations?

Bathrooms are evolving into spa-like retreats, and glass is playing a major role. Frameless shower enclosures with clear or fluted glass are trending for their clean and airy look. Black or brass hardware adds a touch of luxury, while curved glass panels and textured finishes introduce softness and depth. The overall direction is towards functional elegance—designs that are minimal but rich in tactile and visual detail.
