The FIFA World Cup 2026 is right around the corner. Set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026, the tournament will span 16 host cities and feature 48 teams competing on football's biggest stage.
But one question is on everyone's mind: How much does it actually cost to attend the FIFA World Cup 2026? The short answer: more than ever before. Widely expected to be the most expensive FIFA World Cup in history, the tournament comes with a hefty price tag. For Indian fans, entry-level hospitality packages start at approximately ₹2 lakh, while premium hospitality experiences can exceed ₹25 lakh. At the ultra-luxury end of the spectrum, corporate packages can cost as much as ₹2.7 crore, offering private luxury boxes, Michelin-starred dining experiences, exclusive stadium lounges, and unparalleled networking opportunities with global business leaders and dignitaries.

Ticket prices alone have sparked considerable debate, with many categories priced at nearly double what fans paid during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. FIFA's Category 1 group-stage tickets (excluding opening matches) range from $450 to $990 (approximately ₹37,350 to ₹82,170), compared to $220 (approximately ₹18,260) in 2022. Similarly, Category 1 quarter-final tickets start at $1,360 (approximately ₹1.13 lakh), a significant increase from $425 (₹35,275) at the previous tournament.
FIFA World Cup 2026 match tickets are expected to cost around $900 (approximately ₹74,700) for the opening match, while tickets for the final could exceed $10,000 (approximately ₹8.3 lakh). Category 3 seats, the most affordable option available, range from approximately $140 to $1,410 (approximately ₹11,620 to ₹1.17 lakh) during the group stage. For fans planning to attend multiple matches, costs can quickly escalate. Fans seeking premium experiences, including exclusive lounges, travel arrangements, and VIP access, should expect to pay substantially more. In some cases, hospitality packages alone can push the overall spend beyond ₹5.5 lakh.
To put ticket prices into perspective for Indian travellers, a standard group-stage match ticket can cost anywhere between ₹13,000 and ₹1.3 lakh. Final-match tickets, meanwhile, can range from approximately ₹6.6 lakh to a staggering ₹36 lakh, depending on the seating category and hospitality package selected.
Accommodation is another major expense. Two nights at a Manhattan hotel during the final weekend of July 18–19 can easily exceed $1,000 (approximately ₹83,000). According to data collected by The Athletic, hotel rates near MetLife Stadium average around $440 (approximately ₹36,520) per night on match weekends.

However, the true cost of attending the tournament depends on several factors: which matches you want to watch, how far you intend to travel, where you choose to stay, and how close to the action you want to be. Ticket prices are only the beginning. Flights, hotels, local transportation, visas, and even parking are contributing to the rapidly rising cost of attending the tournament.
One of the most surprising expenses is parking. Fans may have to pay as much as $300 (₹24,900) to park near some stadiums, while rates of around $100 (₹8,300)are expected in several host cities. Transportation costs are rising too. For the semi-finals, a round-trip train ticket from Manhattan's Penn Station to MetLife Stadium will cost $98 (₹8,134). While this is lower than the initially proposed $150 (₹12,450) fare, it remains substantially higher than the usual $13 (₹1,079) round-trip fare.
For international travellers, flights add another significant expense. Round-trip airfare to New York from many global destinations can exceed $2,000 (₹1.66 lakh) during the tournament period. Round-trip flights from India to the United States, Canada, and Mexico are already expensive, with travel costs expected to increase significantly during the tournament. A return flight from New Delhi to New York's JFK Airport currently starts at around ₹1.09 lakh on Qatar Airways with a stopover in Doha. Similarly, travelling to Mexico City's Estadio Azteca could require flights costing upwards of ₹1.53 lakh, depending on routing and availability.

Visa expenses add another layer to the budget. A United States visa application costs ₹17,64), while a Canadian tourist visa costs around ₹12,600 and a Mexico visa approximately ₹4,500.
When all these expenses are combined, attending the FIFA World Cup 2026 becomes less of a holiday and more of a major financial commitment. For football fans, it may be the trip of a lifetime—but it is certainly not coming cheap.
For Indian fans, a basic World Cup trip covering flights, accommodation, visas, local transportation, and match tickets could cost anywhere between ₹10 lakh and ₹15 lakh per person. And that's before factoring in premium hospitality packages, additional matches, shopping, sightseeing, dining experiences, or unexpected expenses.
