Dolkhar Resort
📍 Leh, Ladhak
Located in Tukcha, in the heart of Leh, Dolkhar Resort is a boutique stay that beautifully balances Ladakh’s cultural heritage with contemporary design and conscious luxury. Once a stop along the legendary Silk Route, the neighbourhood still carries a sense of history and quiet charm, while the property itself feels calm and tucked away despite being just minutes from the airport and Leh’s main town.
Spread around an apricot and apple orchard that once belonged to owner Rigzin Wangmo Lachic’s grandmother, Dolkhar has been thoughtfully designed to feel deeply connected to the land and community around it. The boutique stay features just seven villas, each carefully created using locally sourced materials, traditional Ladakhi building techniques, and the craftsmanship of over forty local artisans from nearby villages.
Architecture and interiors at Dolkhar celebrate Ladakh in an understated yet contemporary way. Compressed stabilised earth blocks, willow and poplar wood roofs, traditional columns and beams, and walls coated with Multani mitti mixed with hay all bring warmth and texture to the spaces. Merlot and deep green stones from Chilling create striking feature walls, while handwoven yak and sheep wool rugs, throws, and cushion covers crafted by Kharnaki women add softness and authenticity to the villas. Each villa is spread across two levels with living and dining spaces below, bedrooms above, and private patios and traditional Ladakhi balconies overlooking the landscape.
The experience at Dolkhar is rooted in sustainability and community. The property follows a strong zero-waste and zero-plastic philosophy while supporting local artisans, ingredients, and traditions throughout the guest experience. Even the in-room details, from local herbal teas to traditional pulli cookies, reflect the region’s culture and craftsmanship.
Dining at Tsas, the resort’s plant-forward restaurant, highlights local produce and ingredients unique to Ladakh, including herbs sourced from remote villages like Turtuk. The Terrace Bar complements the experience with inventive cocktails served against panoramic mountain views. Wellness also plays an important role here, with a spa offering treatments inspired by Ladakhi healing traditions and local ingredients.
