Aramness, Gir

📍Gir, Gujrat

This is wilderness at its best. The luxury safari lodge Aramness sits on the edge of Gujarat’s Gir National Park, home to the world’s last remaining Asiatic lions. Its name is derived from the Gujarati words “aram” (rest) and “ness” (village), and nods to the property's integration of luxury while staying rooted in local culture.

Envisioned by wildlife conservationist Jimmy Patel, Aramness spans lush forests and restored meadows, featuring 18 private, village-style kothis. The property offers 15 single-bedroom villas and three double-bedroom family villas. Its design philosophy is rooted in understated luxury and regional authenticity. Conceived by Fox Browne Creative and Nicholas Plewman Architects, each kothi draws inspiration from traditional Gujarati homes. Architectural details include otlas, chowks, jharokhas, sandstone jali screens, Kutchi lippan artwork, and handcrafted Gujarati textiles—each element a celebration of local craftsmanship. Every kothi features a private pool, shaded courtyard, and verandah overlooking winding waterways and teak forests, embodying the essence of refined relaxation.

While safaris and wildlife are central to the experience, the property also encourages guests to slow down and focus on holistic wellness. At the Aramness Spa, guests discover relaxation spaces designed to help reconnect with nature and self—from yoga sessions in a forest-facing pavilion to consultations with the in-house wellness expert and soothing treatments accompanied by the distant sounds of the wild. For extra relaxation, the infinity pool, peaceful meadows, and quiet forest surroundings help guests forget city life.

The way to the heart is through food, and at Aramness, dining is all about authentic Gujarati and Kathiyawadi cuisine. Think village-style dinners under the stars, jungle BBQs, and farm-to-table meals from the property’s edible garden, along with globally inspired menus at the Pool House.

Other recreational activities include immersive cultural and nature experiences, such as pottery sessions, visits to Maldhari communities, organic gardening, stargazing, sunset picnics, and guided nature walks through protected teak forests. Sustainability is central to the lodge’s ethos, with indigenous tree-planting initiatives, greywater recycling systems, biogas conversion, and strong community engagement programs that support local livelihoods. There are also wood-fired pizza-making experiences and a Junior Naturalist Programme for children.
